Cabinet of curiosities

After watching the series Dr. Nasrs Wunderkammer I realised that as long as I can remember the Cabinets of Curiosities or Wunderkammers inspired me to collect objects. Maybe not in the traditional sense of the word. Cabinets of curiosities were small collections of extraordinary objects which attempted to categorise and tell stories about the wonders and oddities of the natural world. My collections include shoes, bags, fake enamel objects, old frames, beads, books etc. These are more products of civilization than of our natural environment although I also collect feathers, stones and gems. In my paintings I like to create strange objects or non-existing flowers or animals in order to assemble my own fantasy collections. These objects create their own stories, which inspire me to go on an adventure and explore my inner world and the world around me.
